Necktie should definitely reflect a man's Personality because it's really the only thing a man can really go all out, in whatever color or artwork he pleases and still look great.
I love seeing my husband in the store among other man having their "Me" time, picking and choosing their ties, putting their thoughts and time into it.That's why they love when you compliment them on it, because it's the perfect Accessory to show their Personalities.

"Tell a man you like his necktie and you will see his personality unfold like a flower." - Countess Mara, 1950.

Neckties play an effective role in a man's wardrobe.
Whether it be to identify a cause, occupation, a group or just to wear for fun.
Ties gives any man a sense of self, but always remember that "less is more" Balance is the key. When it comes to pairing a shirt and tie: The brighter the tie, the plainer the shirt should be, and vice versa. You can mix prints on ties and shirts, as long as they're not the same size. (In other words, small dots with large stripes are okay, but large stripes with large dots are a bad match.)

These patterns are one of the favorites among French and Italian neck tie designers and if chosen properly can stress your good taste and mastery in tie selection.

Patterns
You should not be intimidated by pattern, have Fun with it. There is nothing to be afraid of and with time you will be a pro at it. The best approach would be to match pattern on pattern that are different in sizes. You may even take this further by wearing a striped shirt with a thicker diagonal striped tie.

Stripes
Matching your tie is easy, just look at you shirt and identify the outstanding color that is on it. Keep it simple and do not put stripe upon stripe. Matching a pinstriped suite with a striped shirt and a striped tie is not a good match.
